What is a Wastewater Interceptor?
A wastewater interceptor is a large underground chamber often located in large retail parks, factories or petrol stations. They are designed to “intercept” petrol, oil, grease, silt or grit before entering and contaminating public drainage systems. Water escapes from the interceptor but wet waste gets left behind and builds up over a period of time.
What is Interceptor Drainage?
In order to meet safety and compliance regulations, interceptors should be drained and cleaned out regularly by jetting tankers. The residue is then treated on site using a multi-stage filtration system to remove hydrocarbons to almost non-detectable levels. Any contaminated waste is taken away to be disposed of at a licensed treatment facility and filtrated water remains onsite. You will receive a disposal certificate which confirms that you have met your own environmental requirements.
